Jack Doohan ’s father and former Grand Prix motorcycle road racing World Champion Mick Doohan has compared his son’s performance to that of the other Alpine driver, Pierre Gasly . Jack Doohan was recently replaced by Franco Colapinto to represent Alpine in the next five F1 races this season. And Mick’s post points to not much of a difference between the performances of Jack Doohan and Gasly, as the latter continues to drive for Alpine.
Mick Doohan highlights Jack Doohan vs Pierre Gasly stats
Mick Doohan took to his Instagram Stories and shared Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan’s Formula 1 stats. While Gasly is in twelfth position with 7 points, Doohan is yet to debut in the points section and is ranked at number nineteen in the F1 Driver Standings .
The statistics show Doohan didn’t finish the season’s first race in Australia and the latest one in Miami. Gasly, on the other hand, didn’t finish the race in Saudi Arabia. While Doohan is seen to have ranked between 13th and 17th position in the six races of the season so far, Gasly has ranked at 11th twice, in Australia and Japan; he ranked 13th twice, in Japan and Miami. His best performance has been securing 7th position in Bahrain.
Jack Doohan has now been made the reserve driver at Alpine, while Colapinto will be driving along with Gasly in the next F1 races. Doohan suffered multiple car crashes this season, which seems to have fuelled his axing at Alpine.
Alpine boss Flavio Briatore said about replacing Doohan with Colapinto, “With the field being so closely matched this year, and with a competitive car, which the team has drastically improved in the past 12 months, we are in a position where we see the need to rotate our line-up.”
He further said that the change in the driver lineup will “give us an opportunity to try something different and after this time period we will assess our options.” Talking about Doohan, he said, “We continue to support Jack at the team, as he has acted in a very professional manner in his role as a race driver so far this season.”
