The top 10 TV shows to watch on BBC iPlayer right now

Choosing what to watch in the evening can often be a hard task. It often feels like we endlessly scroll through streaming services or TV channels looking for the perfect new series for a much longer time than we actually spend watching the thing. In the modern streaming age, the thousands of hours of shows available to watch at a moment's notice can often be overwhelming.

But an often safe bet to see what's good is to take a look at what everyone else is watching. Although the most popular shows may not necessarily be to your liking, they are popular for a reason. That being said, here are the top 10 most popular shows currently airing on BBC iPlayer:

10) Amyl & The Sniffers: Live Set from Reading Festival

Expect a high-octane performance from the Australian punk powerhouse, who took to the stage last weekend for the Reading and Leeds festival. The iPlayer coverage from all of that weekend is available to stream, but the Aussie band is currently the most popular.

9) Disaster at Sea: The Piper Alpha Story

The documentary takes viewers back to one of the worst oil rig disasters of all time that happened just off the shores of Scotland. It looks into the real-life tragedies of the survivors as well as the firefighters who managed to get the fire under control after more than a month in flames.

8) Murder Case: The Vanishing Cyclist

This true-crime investigation unravels the puzzling disappearance of a cyclist, weaving together interviews, reconstructions and twists to keep you guessing throughout the show. This two-part show turns its attention to one of Scotland's most unique and haunting cases when a former naval officer embarked on a charity cycle and seemingly disappeared without a trace.

7) MasterChef

The popular culinary competition is back for its 21st series, where talented amateur cooks go head-to-head under the intense scrutiny of expert judges. The latest series was hit with controversy after alleged misconduct from both hosts, Greg Wallace and John Torode, who will not be returning to host again.

6) Destination X

Rob Brydon hosts this new travel competition that will keep you guessing throughout. A team of contestants are driven in a blacked-out coach around Europe, trying to find clues to work out where they are - think the Traitors crossed with Race Across The World.

5) King & Conqueror

A drama retelling the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The big-budget drama stars James Norton alongside Game of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in this eight-part saga.

4) The Great British Sewing Bee

The much-loved design and sewing show is back once again for its 11th series as its contestants go up against each other week after week to show their skills with fab fabric and a sewing machine.

3) Match of the Day

The age-old football highlights show is back for another season, bringing all the highlights from the weekend's Premier League games. This time, the show is back with a new set of hosts after Gary Lineker stepped away from the helm last year. Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates will now take up the helm alongside classic pundits Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.

2) Tommy: The Good. The Bad. The Fury.

A new docuseries looking at boxer turned Love Islander Tommy Fury. The brother of former World Champion Tyson Fury, the show follows his preparation for a fight against MMA star Darren Till, as well as looking at the aftermath of his split from Molly Mae.
