Influencer chef Michael Duarte has died in what his family described as a "horrible accident" while travelling in Texas. The content creator, best known to his millions of followers as "FoodWithBearHands," was tragically killed just three days after marking his wedding anniversary. The viral cook, who amassed more than two million followers, was celebrated for his upbeat personality and creative videos showcasing BBQs, grills, and outdoor cooking.
His Instagram bio read: "my purpose is to share to the world food to people who need it the most." Michael's family confirmed his tragic passing and paid tribute to the "loving" husband, father, and friend. In a statement, they wrote: "He was a true & loyal partner, a trusted collaborator, and above all, a remarkable person. His passion, professionalism, and creativity left a lasting mark not only on our team but on everyone who had the privilege of working with him."
A GoFundMe page was later launched to help cover funeral costs and support Michael's wife Jessica and their young son Oakley.
The post read: "This heartbreak came without warning, leaving Jessica to incur the expense of bringing him back home to California and covering funeral expenses.
During this time, and in the months/years ahead, we want to make sure that Jessica and Oakley are taken care of as Michael would have wanted them to be.
Your support would bring comfort, stability, and a reminder that they are not carrying this weight alone."
In a separate statement, his talent agency Alooma Media Group said: "It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our valued client and dear friend, Michael Duarte."
The family added: "The funeral plans for Michael are undecided at this time, but we will update you all at a later date.
"The family deeply thanks you for your love and support as they grieve through this tragic loss."
The tragic news follows another blow to the culinary world this week, after South African TV chef and presenter Mynie Steffens, 43, was killed in a helicopter crash.
Steffens died alongside a pilot when the aircraft went down on Roodegrond Farm at around 7:45am on Monday.
Farm owner Ruan Scheepers confirmed the horrifying ordeal, saying his workers had alerted him to the crash moments after it happened.
Authorities are now investigating the cause of the accident and have extended their condolences to the families of those who died.
Funeral arrangements for Michael Duarte are expected to be announced in due course.
