BBC Breakfast was paused for a live breaking news alert in Kyiv, Ukraine, after a night of drone and missile strikes - including an "unprecedented act of aggression" on neighbouring country Poland, as several drones violated Polish airspace. Reporter Sarah Rainsford was live in the European city after air raids shook Ukraine once again.

Sarah explained: "We're still waiting for the full details from Poland on exactly how many drones crossed the border, how deep they went and what happened when they were intercepted by Polish jets and NATO jets. What we do know is this took place during a big air raid here in Ukraine. This was a major attack, again another aerial attack by Russia on Ukraine. Launching hundreds of drones, followed up by missiles, against this country.

"There were attacks right across the country but they did focus particularly on the west of Ukraine, close to the Polish border. That is where, we understand, overnight several drones crossed the border and we believe they went relatively deep into Polish territory.

"Certainly I was monitoring Telegram channels here in Ukraine, which people here monitor to see where the danger is, and they saw drones crossing the border. They talked about them heading at least 50km across the border into Poland."

She went on: "Poland is talking about an act of aggression, they're saying this is an unprecedented violation of their airspace, and certainly it is completely new territory for Poland and for NATO. NATO jets involved, Polish jets involved.

"The full consequences of this, I think, are yet to be clear. But it is a new twist and it takes place in the context of a Russian escalation of its attacks on Ukraine itself."

The news has sparked fears of WW3 breaking out, with one X user tweeting: "Please don't let this be the start of WW3."

Another worried: "So pretext of WW3 has started?" While a third said: "WW3 on its way... Europe is going to war with Russia... facilitated by Trump!"
