Kendrapara: A major mishap was averted late last night as eight fishermen managed to swim to safety after a fishing boat capsized in the sea in Satabhaya area of Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
According to sources, the steersman detected a technical issue in the ill-fated boat named ‘Tarini-2’ while returning from fishing in the deep sea and quickly tried to guide the vessel to shore. However, a part of the boat broke, causing rapid water ingress. Since the incident occurred near the coast, the fishermen could swim to safety despite the rough sea conditions.
The boat, which was reportedly registered in the Bhadrak district, along with all its equipment and the day’s catch, was completely submerged and lost in the sea.
