Dehradun Cloud Burst: Due to cloudburst in Sahastradhara, a famous tourist destination in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, many shops, hotels and a bridge were washed away and two people are reported to be missing.

The cloudburst incident during heavy rains last night at Sahastradhara, a famous tourist spot in Uttarakhand's capital Dehradun, created havoc in the entire area. The Karligad river overflowed, due to which the strong current swept away many shops, hotels and a bridge. About eight shops built in the local market were completely destroyed, while the Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple also submerged in the water. According to the administration, two people are reported missing, and more than 100 people were safely shifted in the rescue operation that continued overnight.

NDRF, SDRF teams reached the spot

Giving information about the incident, the District Magistrate said that around 11 pm, a cloudburst in Sahastradhara-Karligad area caused debris and flood of water from the mountains to flow into the river. Due to this, many vehicles in the IT Park area were submerged in water, and nearby houses were also damaged. NDRF and SDRF teams reached the spot, while SDM Kumkum Joshi monitored the relief operations throughout the night. The affected families have been shifted to safer places, and the search for the missing people is on.

Red alert in many districts

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rains in many districts including Dehradun today. Due to this, the district administration has declared a holiday in all schools from class 1 to 12. Local people have been appealed not to go to the banks of rivers and drains and follow the instructions of the administration. This incident is part of the series of continuous disasters happening in Uttarakhand in the last phase of monsoon, where incidents of landslides and floods have been recorded earlier as well.
