Tenerife tourists cheer man singing Oasis song in bar and then realise who it is

Summer may be drawing to a close, but families are still rushing off on last-minute getaways before the children return to school. One mum received the surprise of her lifetime during a recent break to Tenerife when she encountered a celebrity in a bar - after he took to the stage to perform an Oasis number.

Carly Leahy and her two youngsters popped into a bar in Costa Adeje last week, where a guitarist was performing live music. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until the musician beckoned a punter to join him on stage for a version of Oasis' hit track, Wonderwall.

When the bloke stepped up to perform, 42-year-old Carly from Blackpool recognised him as boxing icon and pal of the Gallagher brothers, Ricky Hatton.

However, drinkers hoping for a Liam Gallagher-standard show from 46-year-old Ricky were rather let down, as it emerged the sporting hero didn't actually know the lyrics to the beloved anthem.

In footage posted onlineby Carly, Ricky can be seen butchering the well-known line: "By now, you should have somehow realised what you've got to do."

Instead, he mumbled: "Somehow, you should have somehow [inaudible] what you've got to do."

Rather than singing "and all the roads we have to walk are winding" he then repeated himself, belting out "and all the roads that lead us there are winding and all the lights that lead us there are blinding".

Carly was astonished to discover that the former world boxing champion hadn't mastered the lyrics, particularly given his reported friendship with Liam and Noel Gallagher. She even suggested they ought to provide him with the words to better equip him for future musical ventures.

She said: "He attempted to hit those notes, but he definitely messed up the words. I was surprised he didn't know them by heart, because I remember Oasis going to his fights back in the day.

"Noel needs to have a word and send the lyrics over to him."

Nevertheless, Carly spoke glowingly of the boxing legend, praising his patience and kindness towards pub-goers eager to meet him following his performance.

She added: "Afterwards, he was so patient and kind to everyone who approached him, so that was quite nice. The kids were over the moon to see him. Some people have really gone in on him, but he was on his holiday, enjoying himself."

Carly also revealed that Ricky, who is set to return to the boxing ring in December, made time to pose for photographs with admirers after his set, though she chose not to request one herself to avoid disturbing him.

Those commenting on the footage were swift to hail Ricky a "legend", expressing their admiration for his willingness to have "up for a laugh" despite his performance falling short of reunion tour standards with the Gallagher siblings.

One person said: "The man's a legend."

Another chimed in: "As long as he's happy!".

A third fan commented: "Better boxer than a singer! Up for a laugh though. I've always liked Ricky Hatton."
