Sheridan Smith's drama I Fought The Lawhas made its TV debut and many viewers want to know where it was filmed.
Led by Cilla and No Return actress Sheridan Smith, the series focuses on the murder of 22-year-old Billingham mum Julie Hogg by William Dunlop, and her mother Ann Ming's relentless pursuit of justice. Ann's determination led to a historic change in the double jeopardy rule, after Dunlop had been acquitted twice at trial.
The cast and crew of the true crime drama, which started on Sunday (August 31), headed to the North East last summer to film at various locations, including the heart of Newcastle city centre.

I Fought The Law is based on Ann's deeply moving book, For The Love of Julie.

Speaking to ChronicleLive at a screening in Durham, Ann revealed that she had visited the set multiple times and was profoundly impressed by Sheridan's portrayal of her.
The cast of I Fought The Law includes former Coronation Street star Jack James Ryan, and the series is being brought to the small screen by Hera Productions and North East Screen.
They've made use of actual residences for scenes involving the homes of Julie, Ann, her husband, and their neighbours, reports Chronicle Live.
Due to this, some specific filming locations remain undisclosed.
However, the production took its cast and crew across the region, with scenes filmed in Newcastle city centre, Shiremoor, Forest Hall in North Tyneside, Teesside, Northumberland, and County Durham.
Despite later episodes being set in London as we follow Ann's desperate attempts to have her pleas heard, no filming actually occurred in the capital.

The series was entirely shot in the North East, with notable buildings such as Newcastle Civic Centre, Newcastle University, and Middlesbrough Town Hall serving as stand-ins for London locations.
I Fought The Law continues on ITV at 9pm on September 1
