Indian film director Anuparna Roy has made India proud at the 82nd Venice Film Festival. She has won the Best Director Award at this prestigious film festival. Anuparna Roy has become the first Indian to win this award. She has won this award for her film 'Songs of Forgotten Trees'. Anuparna Roy won this award in the Orizzonti section at the 82nd Venice Film Festival.

This category focuses on new trends in cinema and includes first-time creations, young talents, indie films, and uncommon films that leave a big impact on people despite being less popular. Anuparna Roy's film 'Songs of Forgotten Trees' was also the only Indian film to be selected in this prestigious category. These awards were announced by French filmmaker Julia Ducourno. She was the head of the Orizzonti jury. Anuparna Roy went on stage in a white cotton saree in a typical Bengali look.

The director gave credit for the victory to Anurag Kashyap.
