On Tuesday morning, many Facebook users across the world, including India, reported problems uploading to the app. Users turned to other social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, where they posted about problems uploading videos and Facebook Shorts. However, the problem was resolved shortly after, and Facebook is now functioning normally.
According to real-time monitoring platform DownDetector, users reported Facebook being down on their website starting at 7:00 AM, and by 9:33 AM, the number of reports had increased to 10. This figure doubled by 12:18 PM. According to the data, 53 percent of users experienced problems logging in, 26 percent experienced problems uploading, and 21 percent experienced problems with the feed.
If you're experiencing similar issues, you can check whether the problem is local or a global outage. This will help you determine if it's a local outage the next time you encounter one.
If the problem is due to a local issue, here's how to determine:
Check your internet connection: Make sure your Wi-Fi or mobile data is working properly by visiting other websites or using different apps.
Restart the app or browser: Close and reopen the Facebook app or your web browser to eliminate temporary glitches.
Clear browser cache and cookies: Cache and cookies are data that accumulate on your phone and browser. They can hinder performance, so it's important to clear them.
Try on another device: See if Facebook loads on another phone, tablet, or computer. Or try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
Update the app: Make sure you have the updated version of the Facebook app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
These are the ways to detect a global outage:
If you've checked the local issues above and the app still isn't working, you can check for global outages:
Visit a status checker website: Sites like "DownDetector" or "Is It Down Right Now" provide real-time information, allowing you to check whether you're the only one experiencing the problem or whether everyone else is.
Check other social media platforms: Often, when one social media site goes down, users turn to other social media platforms to complain. Search hashtags like #FacebookDown on platforms like X to see if others are reporting similar issues.
Check Meta's official page: Meta has a page for its official product, which you can check for official updates.
If a global outage is confirmed, there's nothing you can do. You'll have to wait for Meta's engineering teams to resolve the issue.
